The internet today has become a basic necessity. It is hard to imagine a life without it. While we have seen the positives of the internet but only a few know the deep dark side of the internet. Shocking as it may sound but whatever searches we do or the products we buy on an e-commerce website constitutes only 4% of the internet. The rest 96% is being covered by the dark and deep web. The internet is divided into three segments surface, deep and dark web. Surface web means normal browsing on Google, using social media, amazon, e-bay and many other websites which are easily trackable. It can be accessed by normal people and its activities can be viewed by the third parties. The second segment is called the Deep web where confidential data is kept about the security agencies, armed forces, government legal documents, banks financial transactions, universities, companies, employee record data and other highly confidential information. Deep web data cannot be accessed in normal browsers. People accessing the deep web are required to use a password and an identification mark for logging into the deep web. The third segment is the dark web which is the hub of illegal activities, illegal trading, money laundering, human trafficking, drug supply and arms sale. The dark web websites IP addresses are not easily trackable. These websites cannot be opened by normal browsers like chrome, opera or firefox. All the dark web websites are being opened by the TOR browser using the .onion extension. In a survey conducted in 2001, it was found that data usage in the dark web was 195 Terabyte whereas on the surface web it was 4 Terabytes which is almost 400 times higher than the surface web.

So here is the list of illegal activities carried out on the dark web

  • Illegal Drugs Sale: The illegal online drugs market is quite active on the dark web which is supported by many websites. All this is happening at a large global scale without getting noticed by the government and security agencies.

  • Stealing Of Debit, Credit Cards and Money Laundering: A lot of debit and credit cards are hacked in the dark web with excessive illegal money laundering. These transactions are being done openly on the dark web and cannot be tracked by government security agencies.

  • Arms & Ammunition Sale: The arms and ammunition are being sold openly on the dark web. Even the terrorist organizations are using the dark web for arms sale and spreading their propaganda to millions of people.

  • Human Trafficking: Human trafficking is carried out on the dark web which includes the sale of the human organs, live pornography and live torture of kidnapped people in the red rooms where people are tortured brutally and live-streamed to millions of people at a time. The most horrible thing is that people pay in millions to watch the live torture of people in the red rooms. Even the rapes and murders are being telecasted live on the dark web.

  • Illegal Sale Of Animal Flesh: Animal flesh which is prohibited by law is also sold openly on the dark web. People bid in millions to purchase the animal flesh.

  • Illegal Cryptocurrency Transactions: The dark web is well known for its illegal cryptocurrency transactions which are practised very frequently. These transactions are done in billions without getting noticed to government security agencies.

In conclusion, it's much better to stay away from the dark web. Using the dark web may have dangerous consequences and it may even lead to destroying your life forever.
